    @Janet Logan
    Facts. I cannot stand what DeSantis has done and others like him. This whole mentality is gross. I recently had a video call with my eldest brother who believes a lot of the conspiracy theories and has extreme transphobic hate. It was such a hot mess.

    @Nat Weaver I'm sorry you have to deal with that in a (presumably) close family member. Your opinion of the hatred from DeSatan and others like him is accurate. "Gross".

    Speaking of relatives and political differences, I have a bunch of cousins in down state Illinois who were Trump enthusiasts. Don't know what they're thinking now. When we were little we spent every Thanksgiving together but we don't communicate much now, mostly just see them for funerals. One thing I did appreciate, however, was when back then one of them amonished the others that we are all still a loving family. We have more in common than we have differences and that insisting on political allegiance above all else is destructive of things we hold dear.

    Another even closer relative voted for Trump and gets all her news from Fox or worse. But again, she and my wife have learned to stay away from politics in order to affirm and maintain their loving relationship.

    I must admit to being humbled by these folks. I struggle to live up to those principles.

    I don't see that as principled. I see it as giving in to gaslighting. Trump is an open fascist, and his cult are no better. They would all rather see me dead. I won't be nice to them and their ilk. They are not honoring the social contract of tolerance. Why should I offer them tolerance?
